CMA Joins HSITAG to Fight Youth Homelessness

The latest #HSITAGgivesback project raises more than $6,000 (and counting) for the Covenant House.

news sleepoutYouth experiencing homelessness are faced with a new crisis as COVID-19 sweeps the country. CMA joined with other members of the Human Services IT Advisory Council (HSITAG) to form a Sleep Out America 2020 team.

Team members demonstrated solidarity with the thousands of young people without homes and beds by sleeping somewhere other than their bed. Participants chose an array of sleeping spots, from cars to couches and tents to porches.

“How do you stay at home during COVID-19 when you don’t have one?” asked CMA Executive Vice President, Gary Davis. “This year, 4.2 million kids will be homeless in America. Sleep Out America fights these numbers by raising lifesaving funds to give kids safe shelter and opportunity and unite communities against youth homelessness.”

Our Great Promise: Covenant House Alumni Stories (Vimeo)Covenant House provides shelter, safety, and loving care for young people facing homelessness and trafficking in 31 cities across the United States, Canada, and Central America. The available beds are full every night. These youths have no other home, and Covenant House shelters them for as long as they need.

Since COVID-19 emerged, Covenant House has served hundreds of meals each week. Storage rooms, drop-in centers, and offices have been turned into quarantine spaces where staff can safely care for sick kids in isolation. The demand for medical and cleaning supplies is urgent, so staff can stop the virus from spreading throughout the shelter. Beyond the health risks, more than 85% of the youth at Covenant House also find themselves unemployed.

The HSITAG team raised more than $6,000 for the Covenant House. And the donation link is open through August.

“Be grateful for what you have and have empathy for those who do not. Please make a small donation if you can,” said Davis.
